Goal Setting…How Do I Set Good Goals…Are My Goals Good Ones?

Do Your Goals in Life Have Meaning?

There once was a cute little Chocolate Lab named Hershey, owned by a farmer who lived way out in the country. From the time that Hershey was just a wee little pup, he would try and catch his tail.  He would run in circles for what sometimes seemed like hours.  Just chasing and chasing and chasing.

As farmers often do during the hot summer days of the growing season, Hershey’s owner would sometimes just sit outside, and rock on his porch swing.  He would just sip on his lemonade, and admire the beautiful farm and land that he was lucky enough to call his own.

One day, while that farmer was doing just that, his friend happened to stop by to sit, rock, talk, and drink some lemonade with his good buddy.  The old dog, full grown at this point, got very excited at the sight of the visitor, and began to do what he had always done best…He began chasing and  chasing and chasing his tail.  Round and round he went, and where he would stop, nobody knows.

The farmer’s friend said to the owner as he laughed, “I am pretty sure that your dog is never going to catch his tail.”  The owner replied, “I almost wish, that one time, he actually would just catch it…Because once he had, he would have no idea what to do with it.”  They laughed and laughed.

So many of us are just like Hershey though.  We do things over and over and over, with no real rhyme or reason as to why.  We waste so much of our time on things that have no end goal for us at all.  No positive outcome, nothing worthwhile to gain…But we continue to do these things anyway!!??

Spend time doing things which have a positive end outcome for your life or someone else’s.  Don’t spend your whole life just chasing your tail.  Cause what are you actually going to do with it if you do catch it?
