Baseball Drill…Youth to adult…The “Gator” Baseball Fielding Drill

Youth Baseball Fielding Drill (“The Gator”)

This drill is done with 2-4 players and 1 coach

*Coach teaches 1st – The Glove hand is the bottom jaw or choppers of the alligator – The free hand is the top jaw or choppers of the alligator

  • The Coach will roll or hit ground balls to the fielders
  • Each fielder is reminded to field the ball like an alligator would catch its prey – The glove is the hand under the baseball (bottom jaws), and the free hand is going to then clamp down on the ball as soon as it is entering the glove (top jaws)
  • Each player is reminded to trap the prey (the ball) in the glove, and eat it up
  • The player should then take both hands and the baseball to the belly button
  • Finally, the player will complete a starter step and throw the ball back to the coach
