Baseball Drill…Youth to Adult…The “Shuffle and Field” Baseball Fielding Drill

The “Shuffle and Field” Baseball Fielding Drill

-Coach Corey Twigg

This drill is done up to 4 players and 1 or 2 coaches

  • The coach and the player who is up will be facing one another
  • The coach should get low to the ground (on a knee, a bucket, a chair, or other)
  • The player should be in “ready position” or “defensive position” for an infielder
  • The coach then rolls the ball right at the player, or to either side of the player
  • The fielder’s job is to:

            -Shuffle to the baseball

-Have hands/glove low and out in front of him (makes a triangle with his feet)

            -Keep his butt low

-“Gator” the baseball with throwing hand as it enters the glove

-Roll it back to the coach without stopping his movement

  • The coach rolls another ball as the first ball is heading back to him
